Describe how
you would implement the use of web sites into a PK-12 classroom
I believe there are many ways that web sites can be implemented into PK – 12 classrooms. For instance, as a teacher tool, the website can be used as an informational tool addressed to the parent. A site made for this purpose might contain a school calendar, a lunch menu, a weekly or monthly lesson plan, or informational links to content that the students are working on in class. Additionally, websites could be implemented as a communication to both parents and students. This might be more applicable to students in higher grade levels, and could include all of the items just mentioned along with current assignment information, links to tutorials, or ebook pages. Last, websites could be integrated into actual classroom instruction. Students could create their own websites that reflect what is being learned in the classroom. For instance, if assigned as an individual project, the website may be constructed by a student at the beginning of a unit and contain notes pertaining to lessons, research on the topic being studied, or a link to the student’s blog used for reflecting on the units taught. If the assignment is given as a group project, students would work together in a collaborative group to create a website that demonstrated understanding of the current coursework.
Personally, I
use a website to relay information about assignments, and upcoming events. In addition to providing the link to the “class”
website, I occasionally assign a project that requires a collaborative group to
create a website that contains artifacts that would demonstrate understanding
of the currently studied literary work.
Along with websites, my students are accustomed to using Google Docs,
Google Drive, iCalendar, and NoteAnytime.
Because the school district that I work for maintains a 1:1 iPad
initiative for secondary students district wide, tools such as the ones that I
have just mentioned are becoming extremely necessary for the student to be
successful in class.
